Chili Cook Off
May 20th



     Sign up to become part of the fun.  Volunteers are needed for our Chili Cook Off fundraiser May 20. We need chili and salsa “chefs”.  Rules and regulation sheets are available in the senior center’s office.  Or call and have one mailed (987-3113).

 

This is one of our busiest fundraisers.  We will be offering wine tasting, beer tasting, chili tasting, tri-tip barbecue, and music.  Pick a time and area of interest to help between 8:30 a.m. (check in and set up for “chefs”) and 6:00 p.m.

 

Areas needing you:;  Tri-Tip lunch table servers, food runners, wine servers, merchandise retailers, 2 booths for chili tasting ticket sales.  Two– to three-hour shifts available.  Seats available for you.  Come early, stay late!

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. All entries must be RECEIVED no later than Friday, May 13th. Entries received after that date will not be considered so please allow enough time for mailing. Entry fees, once deposited, are non-refundable.

  2. Contest will be held at the Middletown Community Building/Middletown Square Park home of the Middletown Senior Center and the Middletown Gibson Library which are located at 21256 Washington Street, Middletown, CA 95461. You can’t miss it as the park and building are visible from CA. Hwy 29.

  3. Chili and salsa entries are to be prepared on site the day of the cook-off. Each contestant will be provided with an assigned space with electrical plug-in however you must provide your own burners, extension cord and canopy. You may also use a charcoal or propane BBQ. Salsa contestants will need to provide their own cooler and ice. You will also be required to provide your own serving utensils. Each contestant must prepare a minimum of: one gallon chili or 1⁄2 gallon salsa for competition and three gallons of chili or one gallon salsa for public tasting.

  4. All contestants are required to obtain a One Day Permit from the Lake County Dept of Health and to comply with all applicable Health Dept regulations. The fee for this has been waived for the event. If you need assistance, please call Lori @ 707-987-3113.

  5. Tables and chairs will not be provided. Please bring your own. Tasting cups and spoons for both the competition and the public tasting will be provided to you.

  6. All contestants must arrive between 8:30-9:30AM.  You will need to check-in at the registration desk where you will be directed to where you will set-up. Public tasting begins at 12:00 PM and judging will begin promptly at 2:00 PM.

  7. All entries will be judged on aroma, appearance, consistency, taste and after taste and will be rated on a 1-10 scale. Entries will be scored by a panel of six judges using those criteria and placing will be by highest aggregate score. You will be directed by the table monitors as to when to prepare your entry for the judging. Every effort will be made to ensure that this is a “blind” judging and that each entry is judged fairly on its merits.

  8. Tasting tickets will be sold by the cashier for public tasting of the entries.  You may sell your tickets back to the cashier at the end of the event for $.50 each or donate them to the senior center.

  9. You must be present for the Award Ceremony at 4:00PM.

     10.Remember that the purpose of the event is to raise money for a very worthy cause so     relax, mingle, enjoy a beverage, have something to eat and most of all have fun with your friends and neighbors!

RULES

  • 12’x12’ outdoor space is assigned on a first come first served basis. $10.00 fee is charged for the space. The number of spaces available is limited and will be assigned on a “first come first served” basis.

  • Quality arts and crafts that are priced for a family event are recommended. The organizers reserve the right to refuse the display of works it considers to not be family oriented.

  • You are responsible for providing your own display materials. Pop-up tents, tables, chairs and electrical hook-ups will not be provided by the event.

  • All sales transactions are between the artist and the purchaser. There will be no fees or commissions on sales of artwork and crafts.

  • No vendors of food or drink will be allowed.

  • Setup of displays begins at 9:00 AM the day of the event and all materials must be removed from

    the park no later than 6:00 PM. You are responsible to clean up after yourself and leave the area as clean as you found it. No garbage removal will be provided.
